by James Sayers, published by Thomas Cornell etching, published 15 December 1792 NPG D9890. A gold-covered statue of Thomas Paine is found in the Parc Montsouris along the Boulevard Jourdan in the 14th arr.; the inscription reads: “Thomas Paine; Citoyen du Monde; 1737-1809; Englishman by birth; French citizen by decree; American by adoption, Paris France - author of 'Common Sense'. Paine thought the "levelling" came from the other direction, that anybody, no matter how well or badly qualified for the position of monarch they were, could become a king so long as the proprieties of bloodline, descent, and family connections were adhered to. Thomas Paine (1737-1809) was an English-American political activist, philosopher, and revolutionary. As one of the Founding Fathers of the United States, he authored the most influential pamphlets at the start of the American Revolution and inspired the colonists to declare independence from Great Britain... For Thomas Ploug er hjernen det centrale, og han siger, at når noget forekommer at have oplevelser og erfaringer som mennesker, vil vi være nødt til at tilskrive det rettigheder, også selv om det ligner en gris.
